The Estate of Jeff Healey is excited to announce the production of See The Light: The Jeff Healey Story, the first official feature length documentary film on the extraordinary life and legacy of the Canadian music icon. “We are thrilled to be partnering with Toronto based TGTV to produce this documentary. The film will look at Jeff’s remarkable story through new interviews, archival footage and Jeff’s own unique voice.” said Cristie Healey, wife of the late Jeff Healey and Co-Administrator of his Estate.
“This project has been years in the making and we are in the pre-production phase of what will be an internationally distributed film. TGTV and their team at Eggplant bring decades of experience to the table, while still affording us complete creative control over the project.” added Roger Costa Co-Administrator of The Estate of Jeff Healey.
Born in Toronto in 1966, Jeff Healey’s childhood was shaped by the diagnosis of a rare ocular cancer, retinoblastoma… yet it never broke his stride. Through the late-’80s and on to post-millennium, Jeff’s jaw-dropping guitar style and soul-drenched vocals saw him rise to multi-platinum sales, worldwide acclaim and collaborations with the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughan, B.B. King, John Mayall, George Harrison and many more.
“Jeff was one of the most unique players of all-time.” says session ace and Toto legend Steve Lukather. “He redefined what the guitar can do and how you can play it. Pure soul and fire.”
His trailblazing guitar technique drove Jeff’s career through two thrilling decades of material, taking in rock, blues and traditional jazz. With the Jeff Healey Band, he recorded five studio albums and contributed to the soundtrack of the cult classic, Road House (a film in which Jeff was featured prominently alongside Patrick Swayze).
After the Jeff Healey Band called it a day in 2001, Jeff’s career continued to move on apace. The two time Grammy nominee and Juno award-winner was also a radio personality, a noted jazz historian and world-famous record collector (owning a collection of ’20s and ’30s jazz 78s that would top out at close to 30,000 records). In addition to his countless recording sessions as a guitarist, trumpet player, singer and producer, Jeff also recorded four albums of the traditional American jazz that was so close to his heart.
He was a beacon of inspiration to people around the world.
In March of 2008, only 41 years old, Jeff Healey passed away following a three-year battle with sarcoma cancer. “He was always growing as a musician,” sighs legendary guitarist Walter Trout. “He was always trying to get better and expand. I think it’s really a tragedy how he died so young. A sad thing.”
“It’s great that his legacy is being kept alive,” says iconic slide player Sonny Landreth. “It’s important to turn the next generation on to people like Jeff. He’s right up there with the all-time greats…”

I saw Jeff in person at the Brown theater in Louisville ky. It was mind blowing. Later I found out that he came over to a bar I usually go to and played! Man was I mad. I fool around with the guitar and can’t imagine how he could learn to play let alone be as great as he was.
Can’t wait to see this!! I miss him and his unique style. He was truly one of the all time greats!!
Awesome,can’t wait!!Longtime big fan!
Hope the film has footage from his House of Blues performance in Las Vegas. I was front row center at his feet. He blew the roof off the place!!

Looking forward to it
Hey Rog. Fantastic news, and will defiantly be buying it. Best wishes to you and yours
I cannot wait for this to come out ! After getting my first Jeff Healey c-d I was hooked ! I like live music best so owning 2 live recordings is fantastic !
Will be looking forward to this. Seeing him at Californias in Windsor is a memory that always remains.
As a young guitar player at that time in late 80’s, I remember hearing him play for first time and it made me pause. Musicians that make me pause, they got something special to them musically – he did. Not anywhere near Toronto so it wasn’t as easy back then to look people up but I remember tapping into his music right away once I discovered it. Good days. I’m glad they are doing this project.
Can’t wait to see this what a legend
So excited to “See his Light”
Remembering studio days
Whilst “See the Light” was recorded
with him and Greg …
He was always the koolest & the Kindest Artist & friend!
Greg was ultra excited recording him, capturing his
Playing and vocals with the band…
Listening to those playbacks were some of the most incredible experiences.
I also remember being on the set of “Road House “ the now famous brawl in bar sequence!
Moments stand out and it was an honor to listen in the studio and hear it go down .
Now in history..
Keep me in the loop , please.
Good luck !
Kindest
Laura GL
so awesome to see this its been a long time coming for one of the greatest and most unique pickers in blues history. saw him rip it up at the sarasota blues fest 2002 and will be a fan forever!!!!!
CAN’T WAIT!!!! I’M SO EXCITED TO SEE THIS!
Great news! I’m looking forward to the new documentary. I saw Jeff play first when I saw the movie “Roadhouse.” Man did he kill it!
Awesome. Im hoping that some of Jeff’s time spent with my Uncle and cousins in his early childhood is included. There was a good 10 years of his early years spent playing and gigging with Uncle Tom, Eric and Todd all over the GTA. I remember Jeff in our kitchen here in New Brunswick jamming with Uncle Tom, Uncle Pat and my mom backn in the early 80s. Uncle Tom is from NB and when he visited here in the summers Jeff came a couple of times. Lots of good memories.
Can’t wait to see this. Tuning in for the updates. Will we be able to purchase this.?
Tuning in for all of the updates. So excited to see this. Will we be able to purchase also.?? Thanks Roger.

This is a great thing you are doing, saw Jeff in concert a few times and his songs are still on my playlists today. Showing people that anything can be accomplished if you want it bad enough. Good for you and God bless everyone with a disability that goes for their dreams.
I just wanted to say thank you thank you thank you Mrs Healey for making this happen!!! Jeff was 1 of my all time favorite artist. We all miss him.
I cannot wait to see this documentary. I saw the JHB in Manchester, UK when I was 14 years old. I went with my Dad who was a massive JHB fan. I wrote to Jeff Healey soon after & he sent me a signed photo that I still have up, framed. Gone far too soon & very much missed. Thank you Rog for posting, I love reading your updates.
My cousin Anthony was in Road House with him ..
Thanks Rog!
Just checking in to see if there are any new updates on the Jeff Healey story. Thanks
Nothing we can share quite yet, but stay tuned and thanks for checking in! ~Rog
I had the pleasure to attend Jeff Healey’s concert at Studio 54 in Barcelona on 18/10/1990. Even that it was a long time ago I still have a great remembrance about it, and it is still one of my top ten concerts of my life.
I’m really looking forward to this documentary and I hope I’ll be able to get it from Barcelona
Awesome…can’t wait To See The Light
I’m never been a hugh music fan. But the moment I saw and heard Jeff on Road house I was hooked. Since then I have bought his music over and over in every way possible. Really opened my eye to jazz. He was and will always be amazing to me. RIP Jeff. You are loved.
Met Jeff in Brampton at a tiny bar in 1993? A genius at improv jamming. A virtuoso musician. Save me a spot within earshot Jeff, I’ll be there soon and won’t be late.
I have watched him so many times in Roadhouse but finally decided to look him up and find out about him. I was so sorry to hear he passed on. I really loved his singing and his repertoire with people. The world was a much better place by knowing him.
